At Fast Tracks, we are excited to announce that we are now carrying Dr. Gary’s Best Breed Dog Food, a food we can genuinely stand behind.
Not because a dog food bag looks nice. Not because it is trendy. But because we have actually seen dogs do well on it.
One of the dogs who helped make us believers is Milo, a German Shepherd we are currently fostering through Hero’s Haven Animal Rescue.

His story is a little different, and that is part of why this transition mattered so much to us.
Meet Milo, the German Shepherd Behind Our Best Breed Story
Milo was originally one of our client dogs here at Fast Tracks. His previous family cared about him, but they had concerns about some of his behavior challenges, especially around their child. Eventually, Milo was owner-surrendered, and we began fostering him through Hero’s Haven Animal Rescue.
We are grateful for the work Hero’s Haven does for dogs like Milo, and we are happy to be a small part of his journey while he gets the care, structure, and support he deserves.
Today, Milo is a German Shepherd with a big personality, a lot of energy, and a heart that is still learning how to fully trust the world after a major life change.
Around women, Milo tends to warm up quickly. With men, he can be more reserved at first and needs patience, calm energy, and time to feel safe. Some of his challenges include fear-based reactivity and barrier frustration, which we are actively working through by building his confidence, giving him structure, and helping him learn that the world is not so scary.
Because of that, Milo will need adopters who understand that he is not a “plug-and-play” dog. The right home will need to continue giving him guidance, patience, and structure so he can keep building confidence.
Once you get to know him, though, Milo is a fun, active, playful dog who really does want connection.
His giant Jolly Ball is one of his favorite things, and he is happiest when he has room to move, something to do, and a job for his body and brain. While he can be dog selective, he tends to enjoy dogs with a similar play style to his own. Larger dogs who enjoy rough-and-rowdy play are usually more his speed.
Why We Started Looking Closer at Milo’s Dog Food
When Milo first came to us, he was actually at a good weight.
After being owner-surrendered, adjusting to life at a facility was a massive change for him. Even though he was safe, loved, and cared for, his whole world had changed. Over time, the stress of that transition started to show.
His appetite was not where we wanted it to be. Milo seemed a little down, and then we noticed he was losing weight.
Once we saw his weight drop, our team started making multiple attempts to help him. Portions were adjusted. Different methods were tried. Over time, we kept looking for something that would help him turn the corner.
Nothing was really working.
On April 20, Milo weighed 66.9 pounds, and that is when we started him on Dr. Gary’s Best Breed German Dog Recipe.
Two weeks later, he weighed 76 pounds.
In just two weeks, Milo gained a little over 9 pounds.
At his most recent weigh-in on May 18, he had gained another 1.6 pounds, bringing him to 77.6 pounds total.
Is This a Scientific Case Study?
No, and we do not want to pretend that it is.
This is not a controlled study. Milo’s story is one dog, in our care, with consistency, monitoring, and a lot of love behind the scenes.
What we can say is that we saw a real result with our own eyes.
After trying multiple things and watching him struggle through such a big emotional adjustment, Best Breed was the first change where we saw real, noticeable progress.

To help our clients try Best Breed without pressure, we are currently offering a free 4-pound bag of dog food so your dog can try it for themselves.
Right now, we are carrying a few different recipes, including chicken-based, fish-based, and red meat-based options.
Current options include Countryside Recipe, Coldwater Recipe, and Red Meat Recipe.
Other formulas or styles can also be ordered by request if a client is looking for something specific.
As we learn more, we also plan to bring in a few different training treats and other products that fit the same idea: products we feel good about using with dogs in real life.
One thing we want to be clear about is this: we are not dog food experts, and we are not pretending to be. We are not claiming that one food is perfect for every dog.
Based on our own experience, what we have seen with Milo, and how much the dogs seem to enjoy it, we believe this is an amazing food and something worth sharing with our Fast Tracks families.
